The Last Hurrah for Crinkly - Euro tour (9/7-?) Day 14 Cliffs of Moher touring (9/20)

Wake up early again for another tour with the same company (was easier booking everything with one company to make sure I had a spot and what not); this time though we go to check out the daunting Cliffs of Moher. Day starts pretty overcast but clears up while we are walking around the cliffs. It is impressive how the cliffs look when its cloudy vs when its sunny, both great just different. The cliffs are huge but when you are on top of them and without a reference you can lose sight in that enormity.

Cloudy day, stopped briefly at the top of this windy road full of switchbacks

View off to one side

Crinkly excited to see the Cliffs

Tower of Obrien :) There will be many pics of views coming up so brace yourself

That tower is like 3 stories tall to give you an idea of the size of these cliffs.

Tower with the Aran islands in the distance

Crinkly says to go that way

New vs old Obrien hahah

Been walking a little bit so wanted to get a glimpse back at the tower

Cant hardly see that tower anymore

I see another light house in the distance

Do not fall, do not fall....

I think the sun is starting to come out?

Dollar if you can find the tower

Looked menacing down there

Tower back in view

Crinkly rejoicing in the sun coming out

Views are definitely better with some sunlight

Crinkly wants to visit the tower so lets go check it out

View looking back from where we were walking

We made it!

Trying so hard to break through

O'Brien tower of power

Crinkly appreciating the family crest

View from the top

Islands look much better in the sun

Beautiful Irish coast

I feel like that cave is something if you go in to it you dont get out

Cool statue they had near the visitor center

Waiting on the ferry to the island

This is not where you want to get into the water haha

I feel like this is the quintessential irish pic when you think of ireland... water, green grass, couple houses and a castle hahah

Back on land

Crinkly found a little art installation

Crinkly enjoying the stone walls

So there was supposed to be a seal colony around here based on the map... i see no seals

Crinkly enjoying another statue

Just walking down this road along the coast

Time to hike through the island

Found an old dilapidated church

Flowers!!

There is something I really find beautiful with the pastures enclosed in the stone walls...

Getting me a selfy with the beauty.

Cool tower on the island

So that castle is also an Obrien castle... lets go check it out

Crinkly for scale

Lil church in the bottom of a nearby cemetery

Crinkly enjoying some beach time after a lil bit of a walk

Found a pub on the island so Crinkly made me get a guinness

HEading back and trying to get some pics of the cliffs

Ireland countryside

Ahhh yeah the day of O'Brien continues

See what a nonguinness tastes like

Nope .... back to guinness :)

We were not scheduled to be there long enough to get to the far tower if you head left as you approach the cliffs (away from the Obrien's tower). We head out from the cliffs to get our ferry tour and then over to the Aran islands. But instead of the tour at the base of the cliffs that was originally supposed to happen (was canceled due to choppy seas) they just gave us an extra hour on the island. This didnt make sense for 2 reasons, A) the ferry to the island was running and b) we spent the extra hour for it being cancelled on the island instead of at the cliffs. But whatever carpe diem. Ferry takes us to Innis Oirr where we can get off and either take a horse carriage around, rent a bike, or just walk; since we have all this time now, I decide to walk. Stop at this lil art installation/studio and talk to the lady inside for a little bit before continuing my walk to try and find the seal colony that is on the map but it is no where to be found which is quite the bummer cause that was one of the main reasons I started walking that way from the port. That side of the island has a bunch of stones everywhere which gave the island/area a pretty cool look to it. Really pretty but small island. Walking all around it through the village and eventually make my way over to see the ruins of the Obrien Castle before going to the hotel for a snack and a beer (even after all the walking still had some time to kill so might as well have a pint :) ). Take the ferry back to the mainland and get back in the bus as we head back along the coast which was gorgeous since it cleared up. Get back to the hostel for a shower and to pack. Go eat at papa rich for some awesome asian food with a bit of a kick which was incredibly welcome. Tried to go to hole in the wall pub cause I like the name but it was full despite having many tables with no one at them and me being but 1 person. So I go down the street to Caribou which wound up being a craft beer bar so I had a sour from dublin which was pretty good then a Guinness cause how can you not? Return to the hostel to get some sleep.

Hostel review - better bed than I have had recently in other hostels. Lil enclosure for chargers and what not in the bed . Connections in each bed which is nice so you dont have to have your phone charging across the room. Shower flooded floors a lil as it was ensuite and wasnt much of a barrier to keep the water contained. Huge hang out room in the basement where they have breakfast which is a lil nicer as had a coffee machine but more or less the same when it comes to food offerings. Very centrally located. Nice staff.
