Sleep in properly this time then go grab a leap card as I walk to Tara station to take the train over to Howth to check out that area. Walk around the pier area before heading out on the path eventually. The lighthouses and buildings were off limits but it is a pretty walk. The second half of the walk has more trees and shade which is great.
Sea dragon thing statue... |
Along the boardwalk there was this very old stone looking building for sale. Thought it looked pretty awesome |
Old stone houses up on the hill |
So that I know where I am at and where I am going... |
Crinkly wanted to check out the lighthouse in the harbor first (good thing too cause we didnt come back) |
Crinkly was taking bets on if he could make it to that island... |
Sea wall walk protecting the harbor |
Because of the clouds, the one rock was lit up brighter than the rest of the island. Thought it looked funny |
If you like stone walls, Ireland gots miles of them |
Apparently tall people arent allowed on the trail |
Which hike would you like to do Crinkly? |
Flowers on the hillside |
Down the path we go |
Crinkly just jumping on the rocks as we hike along |
Another lighthouse and facility out on the peninsula |
Getting a little sun on the emerald Isle |
Back where I came from, such a difference when sun is out and when its cloudy |
Might be a little blurry but there are people down there swimming and hanging out on the beach. How they get down there is beyond me but they seem to be having a good time. |
Maybe they just slid down that giant cliff face |
found a road... it went to the house which was private property. I go no farther. |
Crinkly came out to work on his tan |
Looking back on the lighthouse we were just at |
Its amazing how the land is so green and then BAM rocks |
More pretty colors all over the place |
Thats Dublin in the distance.... |
Another view |
Crinkly enjoying some beach time |
Crinkly looking back on the beach from the water |
Wall protecting the land of some current houses |
Looking back at the wall around the house |
Rain shelter |
Crinkly just enjoying being near some water |
Another private building Crinkly is unable to enter |
Another view of Dublin, Crinkly for scale |
Impressive house as I started walking inland |
LAst one I swear |
This house is getting swallowed by the vines |
Cool looking church I walked by on my way back to the train |
Who doesnt like flowers? |
After all that walking, Crinkly was happy to be back on the train |
Crinkly meeting his cousin from McSweeneys |
Get to a point where you can see Dublin across the water which is kinda cool. Stay along the coast which might have been a mistake as the views were lower but it is what it is. I actually walk over to the Sutton island train stop instead of back to Howth in order to mix things up. Train back to town and then head to JW McSweeneys, which I saw on the way to the train in the morning which claims its the oldest craft brewery (or something like that) in Dublin, for a few pints to check out their creations. Not bad and have a nice view of the river and have multiple levels in a pretty cool building. After that grab some fish and chips from near the hostel at Leo Burdocks; there was 1 massive cod filet and a metric shit ton of thick ass fucking fries. The fish was awesome and the amount of food was excessive to say the least, but the fries need condiments and the ratio to me was pretty off; I expect there to be more fries than fish but this was like a 5:1 ratio maybe. I definitely recommend as it was great fish and you can feed a family of 5 and their cat with the fries alone, just make sure you have some mustard and vinegar or whatever you like to put on your fries. Walk over to cobblestone as I hear that is the place for live music but they are full so I go next door to some divey soccer type pub for a beer before going back to the place for a shower and to grab my sleep.
