Atlanta/Asheville trip - The forgotten trip of 2020 (11/28-12/6)

So spent a week of 2020 checking out Atlanta and Asheville meeting up with some friends and somehow I forgot to take notes and chronicle everything so this will be a brief summary of everything; hell yall might actually prefer these kinds of posts instead of the daily recaps... we shall see.

Started in Atanta hanging out with a friend from grad school and chilling watching sports, drinking some beers, seeing his family, etc. After a few days there, I rented a car and a friend from Uni met up with me in ATL so we can check out Asheville together. Before heading out, we checked out the Atlanta aquarium then got on the road to check into our lil space in Asheville. Was a nice cozy mini house on these peoples property and they were incredibly friendly.

Hammerhead sharks in the ATL aquarium <3

Big tank for these guys to swim around in.

Ok one more blurry shark pic

So apparently Asheville likes the grateful dead.

Enjoying some well made drinks

Like I said drinks.

Sun melting the ice where its beams have hit, rest is still frozen from the night

Time to enjoy some nature and do some hiking

Waterfalls!

View from top of the falls

Frozen water flow

So much water flowing

Bridge on top of the waterfall

ice ice baby

Parts of this lake have cool ice patterns in it

Chilling by the river listening to the waterfall

Smaller falls. IF it wasnt so cold, would feel nice to swim here

Having a beer after a great hike on the way back to the place.

Getting some beers to bring home

More falls in a different park

These are smaller falls hahah

This waterfall needs a banana for scale

Made it to the final destination

Went up high in Asheville

Beautiful mountain views

Delicious local taco goodness

Bathroom at a local bar with all their previous placards

Lil brewery right near our place so naturally we went in for some drinks

Back in Atlanta, went and explored the botanical gardens

The botanical garden had an area for growing edible plants that they use in the onsite cafe.

cute animal street art

Spent a couple days checking out the things that were open and doing a bunch of nature hikes as weather was amazing. The hospitality scene in Asheville was amazing, great food, lots of amazing beers being made, pretty small town vibe (though apparently is has exploded in population as big breweries are opening production facilities in/around the area and people are realizing its a cool place to be). After a couple days seeing the sights there, take V back to ATL so she can get her flight back and I stay the last weekend to hang out with a different friend while exploring a downtown atlanta. Walk aroudn the main park, see some other breweries in town which were also pretty good and just enjoyed the time with beautiful weather and good people around. Checked out the botanical gardens but due to it being winter, there was definitely many flowers/colors missing as well as leaves in the trees but it was still nice. I can imagine how pretty it would be in full bloom. Definitely glad I got to check out both cities even if things were a little hampered due to covid/weather. Even with that, I am looking forward to going back and checking out more of what the towns have to offer one day. For instance, I just barely scratched the surface of the historical offerings and information there in Atlanta; especially when it comes to the civil rights movement. Hopefully next time I am there, I will be able to look into and take a walking tour to learn more about the role that city played (is playing as the overall movement lives on).
