After having another good breakfast at the hotel (had a gingerbread waffle which was tasty), we packed up the car and headed on the road for the 8+ h drive we have ahead of ourselves. On the road, I first work on a presentation I have to give in under a week (my last presentation for the work I did in graduate school) before doing some transcribing of my trips' notes. Nevada is exactly what I kinda envisioned the state to be from the little time I spent in it going down to Vegas last year; pretty mountains here and there, but relatively very little to see as it is mostly desert shrubs. At one point we see some salt flats which look pretty cool from the road as its the flat for miles desert you think about when imagining the typical desert. We eventually get into Fernley, where we stay for the night at the Best Western, and take it easy until dinner time. We head out to find a pizza factory down this road nearby and whereas there is one down there, we discover that the one we were looking for was right across the street from our hotel (don't know why the maps sent us to the one in the next town). So we get back to the one we are supposed to be at and have a good pizza before heading across the strip mall to get some ice cream from Steve's handmade ice cream; its good but no special flavors or anything to write home about. Then we head back to the hotel and turn in for the night.
