Berry wanted a picture with the gate. Dont worry he'll be in many more :) |
The famous gate. |
Berry is ready to get off this boat and explore the island. |
Berry and his new deer friend hanging out. |
Treat deer gently? Berry says boo! haha jk he likes being intact. |
Plaque speaking to the shrine. Made Berry read the whole thing before we moved on. |
A totem by the shore. |
Gate and surrounding area. |
Walkway to the shrine by the water. I imagine these lanterns are commemorative for people who donated a certain amount of money. |
Berry is hesitant to cross those warrior cat statues. Fierce! |
More statues. I think we are getting close to the shrine. |
Berry loves this gate. |
We found the purification station before entering the shrine. |
Alright lets explore this shrine. |
Found a cool little lantern. |
Wonder what this would look like in low tide? |
Such a cool shrine. Berry agrees but didnt want to be identified so we had to blur him out. |
Battle training grounds. What weapon would you like to learn Berry? |
Berry taking in the beautiful view of the gate. |
Time to drink some sake. Believe that is what those things carry. |
Berry liking the view of the tall bridge we just walked by. |
Berry likes these cut outs. |
I see a shrine entrance in the distance. Lets go! |
This guy doesnt look too happy does he Berry? |
Amazing wood work of the dragon and pretty fantastic lamp hanging there as well. |
Berry is ready to Rocky these steps. |
Statue on the way up the steps. |
Berry waving back to the shrine gnome. |
Look at this lil cutie. People were putting coins into those slits this dude is standing on. |
Berry liked this memorial. |
Inside the high shrine at Daiganji. Worth the trek up those stairs. |
So many lil statues. |
Map of the sights on Miyajima. Yet another world heritage sight we have gone to see on this trip. |
Berry wanted to know what it was like to be a raccoon and we stumbled upon this so he became a raccoon for a lil bit. |
I found a Hello Kitty statue outside a store. We will call this Miyajima Kitty. |
We found a step by step instruction of how to make the hiroshinomiaki (spelling not guaranteed on that) we have had for dinner the last few nights. Now if only I could read those characters :) |

These things were delicious. They are cheese filled and come in different flavors. Wish I bought a few boxes worth. :) Especially considering Berry ate most of them. |
I got to see the island at high tide so the shrine had water all underneath the walkway; I would like to see it at low tide to see how it differs. After appreciating the shrine on the water, I head up to the Doni temple on the mountain which had many stairs and lots of buildings to explore. After finishing there, I walked back down to the main part of town and had some leaf sweets (spongy cake filled with various things – I got apple in one and cheese in the other and they were delicious) as I made my way to the ferry to get back to mainland. Once back in Hiroshima, I walk over to the main Japanese garden which is beautiful with bridges and a giant lake in the middle which provides many angles as you walk around to take great pictures and enjoy the park.
Berry studying the map of the garden so we dont get lost. What a great travel buddy. |
Little tree island just hanging out in the middle of the water. |
I like this picture quite a bit. |
Berry looking back before we head out deeper into the garden. |
Berry found this beautiful wooden bridge just hanging in the shade. |
I wonder what the boat is for. |
This is a pretty nice view dont you think Berry?
|
Little panoramic view from inside the park. |
Bridges and water galore. So peaceful looking.
|
Park had a few little cabins in it. This one I believe is the tea house where you can get tea samples during certain hours. This was not one of those hours. |
We are getting so close to these bridges. |

Berry found this awesome scenic overlook of the park. I think he has a good set of eyes. |
As we were walking around, one of my favorite animals started following us and landed long enough for me to get this picture. What a beaut! |
Got to the cool arch bridges, now time to conquer them eh Berry? |
Berry wanted to take a break in the shade after we walked around the entire garden. Not a bad place to pop a squat. |
Once I was done enjoying the park, I went to find this ice beer Takao told me about. I get to where it is supposed to be and the place is gone. So I walk around and do some searching and find a nearby craft beer bar (Raku Beer), so I go there instead. After 2 flights of 3 beers ( they had a bunch of choices and one flight wasn't enough – they were pretty tasty), I make my way back to the train station and find the picture for the ice beer Takao was talking about on a window of a bar/restaurant. I stop in for dinner and to enjoy this ice beer (its a beer with frozen foam – not bad but not worth the price increase to me). After enjoying the meal, I head back to the hotel as I head north tomorrow.
Berry found his home away from home. look at all the beer selections we can choose. |

First flight at the craft beer bar. Lets get it on! |
Berry is way more excited about this flight. I cant say I blame him. |
We finally found the frozen beer. Not what I was expecting but we got to try it. Day complete :) |
