Berry's SEAJ trip Day 51: Family day of samurai park, water festival and carousel sushi (7/26/15)

They let me sleep even more today (9 as opposed to 730 yesterday), and then I went down for breakfast as they got ready for our first stop of the day, Samurai/Ninja park, which is essentially an amusement park for kids without the rides. We see some of their shows (Power rangers, samurai fight, movie production steps, etc,) as we walk around and check out all the buildings within the park.

First stop - Power ranger live action show as that was Haruto's main objective (he went straight to the theater somehow once we got inside - was hard to keep up).
Go Go Power Rangers!!!

Berry wanted to be pulled around in his chariot. How can you say no to that face?
Berry watching Takao and the wee one board a rail car. sayonara guys!

Berry checking out a traditional Samurai village.

Another part of the village with a moat. Nice day to be a samurai. :)

They are still on that rail car. Peace my man!

Beautiful inside of one of the houses. Berry likes the artwork.

The kids playing with Berry being a Geisha.

Berry enjoying the pond with all the old architecture around it.

People can pay to get costumed up and then apparently have photographer take your picture. These guys were having a blast!

Exploring the houses with the group.

Its like camping indoors. Berry wants to go camping.
Berry, Stay away from the monster of the lake (loch ness monster in Japan?). Breathing fire spells danger.

A comedic tutorial on how they make Japanese shows. Berry, the kids, and some of the adults enjoyed this thoroughly.

Berry scaled a hut and started climbing on the roofs. I think he is letting this Samurai stuff get to his head.

Reunited and it feels so good! Berry's most favorite friend of the trip - mostly because of the sword, but really its because samurais are amazing!
Time to cross the old school bridge to make it to our next show.

Blurry pic (sorry) of the next theater where we will be watching another live action show. Berry cant contain his excitement (he is the reason the pic is blurry).

Cast of the show posing.

Berry wanted to be the horse, which means I got to be the badass Samurai. Winning!

Tall bridge had to be conquered. Berry doesnt back down from any challenges.

Berry found a creepy companion. Is it a squirrel? a mouse? Not sure but it sure doesnt look nice. :)

Beautiful fountain we came across in our park exploration.

This ninja would crawl back and forth along those guide wires between 2 buildings.

After exploring the outside, we went inside to explore the different areas. Berry found himself some cute companions to hang with for a bit.

Then we found the wall of power ranger evolution. Turns out, this show has been in the Japanese culture for decades, even prior to when we got it in America.

Berry found the hall of red rangers. Do any of these guys look familiar to you?
Found the red ranger I know and love. And look we match. This my friend is a picture of boyhood dream come true (though lets be real, green ranger would have been preferred :) )
Berry is ready for his trial of stunt bear by being fired out of this OG canon.

Eat lunch there which was pretty tasty and got my first taste of Japanese curry, which coming from Thailand, I found it to be not as good. After enjoying the park, we head to the shrine where there is a water festival happening that consists of us wading through a river of cold water with a candle, lighting it, then placing it on holders on the other side of the river. The wind made it hard to keep the candle lit. After getting used to it, the water was nice and the kids kept going back into the water and getting their candle relit and enjoying it.
Berry is excited to get inside the temple. Such a long walk, just to keep building the excitement.

Beautiful day for a water temple festival. Berry gives this entrance 2 thumbs up.

Berry is entering the water to go under the bridge - where are the flames?

Berry is waiting for the crowd to move so he can light some candles!

Berry is lighting his torch off the starter candle. Let it begin!

Berry is ready to light some candles.

Berry marveling at the fact he got the candle lit in those winds. No easy accomplishment.

The hordes of people coming through the bridge wading through the water.

The family that plays together, stays together. Love these guys. Just playing in the cold water that initially the lil ones didnt want to get in.

After that shrine, we go to dinner at a conveyor belt sushi place where I just grab random plates and try them, the best of which was bonito (Katsuo). Was a cool experience just grabbing plates of food to try, and with each plate being 100Y it wasn't too expensive. After dinner, we head to the house and start getting things together as tomorrow we head to Takao's hometown to spend a few days with his family.
Berry and HG trying to decide which fish to get. HG also would be collecting plates to put in the slot in the table behind Berry which after each 5 or so, it plays a game and you get to win stuff sometimes. He loved it.
Berry enjoying some conveyor sushi. Time to get our nom on!

Saw this upon leaving the restaurant. Their gas stations have retractable hoses hung from the top to save space. Awesome!

Another cool beer can. Their beers, which are solidly made, also have pretty sweet designs.

HG grabbed my camera and wanted some pictures so we made faces.

Then we smiled to wrap it up. good times good times.
