Eurotrip Day 14: To Zurich for the final day (9/28/13)

Woke up and checked out of the hostel and made my way to the train station to catch my train to Zurich. Once I arrived, I walked over to my hostel (Langstars), put my bags down, and went to check out the old city area. One of the main pedestrian streets is really nice, but littered with high end shops, so after a few blocks I deviate from said street and start exploring the small alleys and roads all around. Come across many churches and then stumble upon a party in a park (which had a nice few of the city) that had caterers serving booze (if it was noon I would be surprised) and people dressed pretty nice.
Train station of Zurich. I am in my final stop of the trip.
Big city. Old town pretty.
Early morning party in a park in the middle of the city. Wine and everything was there. I have no idea what they do in Zurich but you gotta admire that commitment.

Basic, yet pretty, church.
Cool water fountain on the street with an attached dog bowl area. Props Zurich!
Found a cool walking street. Awesome coming across areas like this.
Apparently my nephew ( 6mo old at the time) own's a restaurant in Zurich. Over achieving one he is.
I see a church with potential stair climbing. Lets go explore.
Looks like there is a party on that bridge. I picked the wrong bridge to cross apparently.
State building of Zurich? Magnificent buildings!
Beautiful buildings abound.
Tight, winding, stone staircase, what is up there?
Made it. Time to enjoy the view!
Im on top of the world! (Or the church - same same)
View of the city. Little circus tent from earlier.
Now I have to go down this thing. Always the hardest part.
After exploring the old town a bit, I took the tram up the hill to the university area to check out the museums, which were all free. I had time to check out the natural science and paleontology museums but did not get to check out the medical history or egyptian artifacts museums. The ones I got to check out were really good. They were very educational (well I assume they are as I do not read/speak german and most signs were only in german) and had a lot of interactive exhibits (microscopes to look closely at insects, earphones where you could pick bird calls and listen to them on cue, etc.). There were also a TON of animals; it wasn't a big building but they crammed those animals in there.
Found the Unversity of Zurich up a hill. Think this would be a good place to go to uni.
View of the city from the university. Look at all those building peaks.
Museum associated with the University. Free to enter. Very informative, with tons of stuffed animals and a few exhibits to learn from.
Bat!!!! Such a cutie!
Medical Museum. They had a few different museums right there.
Found the main building. Unfortunately, this was a weekend. Otherwise I think there would be much more activity around here.
After my fill of learning, I headed back to the hostel to check in and lay low as I have an early flight out in the morning. So I cozied up to the bar, started trying some of the local beers, and just chatted with the bartenders/hostel staff. After a couple beers and some food (I enjoyed the Kristal beer the most) I went up to the room, got my bag packed for the flight, and got some rest for the long flight/journey home tomorrow.
Some local beers to choose from at the hostel.
Schwarz bier? Ja bitte!
